Come meet Chunk, the life-size inflatable humpback whale!

Chunk will be outside the Bowdoin College Museum of Art on the grass between the Museum and the Visual Arts Center from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. during Brunswick’s Second Fridays Art Walk. Visitors will be able to see and learn about whale anatomy with Jessica Woodend, wildlife educator, conservation advocate, and founder of "Within the Whale," an innovative program providing immersive, hands-on education that makes marine life and conservation real and tangible.

After walking inside the whale, pop into the exhibition Currents: Art Since 1900 and view the new acquisition Jocko: Gray Whale by artist Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (1940–2025). Jocko: Gray Whale exemplifies Smith’s focus on place and landscape and reflects her career-long commitments to exploring environmentalism through an Indigenous worldview and critically engaging Western cartographic traditions. An enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, Smith was one of the most acclaimed Native American artists of her generation.

Free and open to the public. The Museum will stay open late until 7:00 pm. Presented in conjunction with 2nd Friday Brunswick Art Walk, organized by the Brunswick Downtown Association.
