About this Event
In this talk, Senior Lecturer in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies Reed Johnson will examine some visually striking examples of early Soviet propaganda, discussing how these artworks illuminate why and how Stalin embarked on a modernization drive that led to the deaths of millions of Soviet citizens. Drawing on recent insights from cognitive science, he will explore how these posters illustrate metaphorical understandings of time that still hold sway over us today. Arrive at noon with your lunch, refreshments and cookies will be available. Sponsored by the Association of Bowdoin Friends.
