Lucy Dutton, Bowdoin '25, discuss the work she did in summer 2024 with COBALT/Team Zostera on establishing a seedbank at SCSC and the process of collecting seeds in Casco Bay. This work led to an honors thesis on seed germination where she examined the summer's data collection and explored the impacts of temperature and salinity on seed germination of seeds from across Casco Bay. Lucy now has a position working with DEP Marine Unit on eelgrass health and marine water quality across the state and is excited to continue to study eelgrass and work on protecting this critical ecosystem.
