DESCRIPTION:Please join the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum for a lecture and
  discussion with explorer J. Robert Harris\, Chair of the Diversity\, Equit
 y\, and Inclusion Committee at the Explorers Club in New York City.\n\nWedn
 esday\, September 7\, 2022\, at 7:00 pm in Kresge Auditorium in the Visual 
 Arts Center.\n\nHarris’ lecture titled Sambo or Superman: The Rocky Road to
  Recognition is a presentation about Black explorers. Recently\, the Explor
 ers Club Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee launched the So
 ciety of Forgotten Explorers. The Society seeks to honor unknown\, lesser-k
 nown\, or unsung explorers from underrepresented communities and ethnicitie
 s\, and tell their stories. These are men and women who are living or decea
 sed\, with emphasis on indigenous as well as female explorers.\n\nIn the sp
 ring of 2022\, the four Inughuit hunters from Greenland who accompanied Rob
 ert Peary and Matthew Henson to the North Pole in 1909: Ootah\, Egingwah\, 
 Seegloo\, and Ooqueah\, were admitted as charter members. Arctic Museum dir
 ector\, Susan Kaplan and museum curator\, Genny LeMoine participated in the
