Multidisciplinary Approaches to Art and Visual Culture
Facilitated by Casey Braun and Sean Kramer
BCMA Curator Casey Braun and Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow Sean Kramer will demonstrate how works of art invite and even prompt conversations across disciplines, drawing on their own diverse academic backgrounds and experiences leading the Museum’s academic programs. Topics include how to incorporate visual and material sources in research and teaching and how to employ close visual observation as both an analytical and a pedagogical tool.
Sounding out the Text: Using Text to Speech Readers for Accessible Course Readings
Facilitated by Juli Haugen and Jayanthi Selinger
Jayanthi and Juli will describe their experience in identifying course reading materials that could present barriers for students using a text to speech reader to support their learning. Jayanthi will share how discussions happened naturally in the classroom around different models of disability and the opportunity to share with the whole class that a text to speech reader is available in Canvas. She will also share some feedback from students. Juli will provide an overview of what a text to speech reader is and demonstrate a reader interacting with a non-accessible document versus one that has been made to be more accessible.
