What If We Get it Right?: Climate Change, Politics, and the Election

Friday, September 20, 2024 7 pm to 8:30 pm

What If We Get It Right? is a provocative and joyous collection of clear-eyed essays, 20 vibrant interviews, data, poetry, and art that map an inspiring landscape of solutions and possibilities at the nexus of science, policy, culture, and justice. Given this political moment, what's most urgent right now is getting it right on climate politics. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson plans to use the book publication as the moment for engaging and encouraging people to #VoteClimate in partnership with Environmental Voter Project (a nonpartisan get out the vote effort targeting environmentalists) and Lead Locally (supporting down ballot climate candidates). Attendees will also be encouraged to find an entry point, or motivation to expand their roles in climate action, via a climate action Venn diagram. After a short introduction of the book, Ayana will be joined by Nathaniel Stinnett (founder and executive director of Environmental Voter Project), and Whit Jones (campaign director of Lead Locally) for a conversation about engaging climate-motivated voters, the electoral power of that demographic, the climate stakes of the election, and the social science of what motivates people to cast their ballots.

** The event in Kresge Auditorium will be preceeded by a reception at 6:00 PM in the Kresge Lobby with What if We Get it Right? books on sale by Back Cove Books, and the author on hand to sign copies! Open to the public free of charge.

* Please note that this event will also be livestreamed (there is a 5-minute delay on the livestream).
